The City of Yarra is a local government area in Victoria, Australia in the inner eastern and northern suburbs of Melbourne.

The Wurundjeri-willam people of the Kulin Nation are the Traditional Owners of the land that is now known as the City of Yarra and Yarra City Council recognises them as the custodians of the cultural heritage of this land. Yarra, particularly Fitzroy and Collingwood, continues to be an important meeting place for Aboriginal people in Victoria.

Yarra's suburbs have a rich and varied history which is reflected in the city's built form, natural environment and diverse community composition. The Census population of the City of Yarra in 2011 was 74,092, of whom 29% were born overseas, and 19.2% were from a non-English speaking background.

The following document was prepared for the Yarra Settlement Forum by Siobhan Kavanagh from the Brotherhood of St Laurence, and provides an overview of cultural diversity and recent migration trends in the City of Yarra, with a focus on recent humanitarian arrivals.
